Audi’s latest A6 Sportback e-tron brings a fresh twist to the executive sedan segment. While it may be later than some of its rivals, this all-electric Sportback certainly makes a statement with its design, cabin, and driving dynamics.
At first glance, the A6 e-tron catches your eye with a coupe-like sloping roofline and distinctive styling cues. The split headlight design at the front and the boldly illuminated logo at the rear set it apart from the rest of Audi’s lineup, while its wedge-shaped silhouette ensures it looks poised on the road. Despite standing slightly taller than the combustion-powered A6 Sedan, it still retains a sleek and planted presence.
Step inside, and the cabin reinforces Audi’s reputation for quality. Rear passengers still enjoy adequate headroom despite the Sportback’s sloping roof. The interior features the latest MMI panoramic display, combining an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster with a 14.5-inch infotainment touchscreen. Navigation through the system is generally smooth, with shortcut buttons conveniently placed for commonly used functions. Physical controls for air-conditioning vents, drive modes, and audio volume further reduce distractions while driving.
The 'Edition 1' trim of the A6 e-tron comes with Audi S sport seats and a Bang & Olufsen premium audio system, providing comfort and entertainment for longer journeys. Rear passengers also benefit from dedicated air-conditioning vents both on the centre console and B-pillars.
On the road, the A6 Sportback e-tron impresses with its composed ride and confident handling. With 210kW on tap—or 240kW using launch control—acceleration is smooth and effortless. The low centre of gravity and finely tuned suspension deliver a planted feel, inspiring confidence on twisty roads. Steering is precise, although feedback is somewhat muted, and rear visibility is limited due to the sharply raked rear window, making camera assistance essential when reversing.
Energy efficiency is respectable, with our test drive averaging around 6.0km/kWh, slightly below the claimed 6.5km/kWh. This translates to an estimated driving range of around 450km per charge, suitable for most executive commuting needs.
Pricing positions the A6 e-tron attractively within its segment. The 'Edition 1' trim starts at $402,999, undercutting its direct rivals—the BMW i5 eDrive40 at $421,888 and the Mercedes-Benz EQE 300 at $413,888. Battery capacity is slightly smaller than competitors, with a net 75.8kWh compared to 81.2kWh for the i5 and 90kWh for the EQE. For those prioritising value over extra features, the A6 e-tron ‘Advanced’ trim begins at $382,999, making it an appealing entry point into the executive EV market.
With its combination of stylish design, a sleek interior, competent ride, and competitive pricing, the Audi A6 Sportback e-tron proves that arriving late to the party doesn’t mean missing out—especially when you arrive in style.
